Man's body found after police called to woodland

The body of a man has been found after police searched a woodland area in Wigan.

Residents spotted a large number of marked cars in an unused area of land off Harvey Lane, in Golborne, not far from Haydock Park Racecourse.

Police were sent out at 2.30pm yesterday (Tuesday) after being called to concerns for a man's welfare but when they arrived they found him dead.

In a statement, a spokesman for GMP said there is not thought to be anything suspicious about the incident.

They said: "At around 2.30pm on Tuesday, August 11, police were called to reports of concern for the welfare of a man on Harvey Lane, Golborne.

"Emergency services attended and a man was sadly pronounced dead a short time later.

"There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding his death."

Anyone with further information on this or any other incident can contact police on 101.
