Man's body discovered underneath Durham viaduct

A man has died after being found on a Durham city road - near Durham railway viaduct .

Emergency services were called to North Road after reports of a sudden death.

The road was cordoned off at its roundabout with the A690 at 11.30am on Wednesday, underneath Durham railway viaduct.

A Durham Constabulary spokeswoman said: “We were called to an incident at 11.30am.

"We were called after reports of a sudden death. The British Transport Police and other emergency services were also in attendance."

The death is not being treated as suspicious.

The road was shut between A690 Hopper House Roundabout and the A691 Framwellgate Peth junction for a number of hours. Durham Bus Station was also closed due to the incident.

The road reopened at around 4pm.
