Man's body discovered in Bridgewater Canal in Altrincham

A man's body was discovered in a canal in Altrincham.

Emergency services were called to Yeoford Drive on Sunday, July 19.

The body of a 75-year-old man was discovered.

His identity has not been released by Greater Manchester Police.

The death is understood to be non-suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.

There were reports of a large number of emergency service vehicles in the area yesterday.

The incident took place on a residential street, near to houses and canal boats.

A spokesman for GMP said: "Police were called at around 1.40pm on Sunday, July 19, 2020 to a report of concern for the welfare of a man in the Bridgewater Canal in Altrincham.

"Upon arrival, emergency services sadly confirmed that a 75-year-old had passed away.

"There are no suspicious circumstances and a file has been passed to the coroner."
