Man's body discovered after 'big police presence' reported

A body was found in a wooded area after police were called about concerns for the safety of a man.

There were reports of a "big police presence" under the Trans Pennine Trail loop line bridge on Childwall Valley Road at around 8.45pm yesterday (Wednesday).

A helicopter was reported to be shining its light onto the loop line itself.

Sadly a man's body was found and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

A Merseyside Police spokesperson said: "We were contacted at 8.45pm last night, Wednesday December 29, following reports of concern for the safety of a man in his 20s.

"Officers attended at a wooded area off Childwall Valley Road where they found the body of a man. The man was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

"The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file is in the process of being prepared for the coroner.

"The man’s next of kin have been informed."
