Gardai are investigating after a man was seriously assaulted in Cork City on Sunday.
The incident happened on the northside of the city late yesterday evening - CorkBeo reports.
Local residents say the young man was accosted and hit with a hatchet in Ballinderry Park, Mayfield around 8.40 pm.
Gardai were quickly on the scene and the victim was treated by an ambulance crew before being taken to hospital.
A Garda spokesperson told CorkBeo:"Gardai are investigating an assault that occurred in Ballinderry Park, Mayfield this evening at approximately 8.40 pm.
"A male in his 20s was taken to Cork University Hospital with non-life threatening injuries."
