Man rushed to hospital with serious injuries after crash in Bolton

A man has been rushed to hospital with serious injuries following a crash in Bolton.

Paramedics and police were called to Washacre, in Westhoughton, at about 2.20pm today (Wednesday, September 16).

The residential street was closed in both directions between Southfield Drive and Leigh Road while the emergency services dealt with the incident.

An air ambulance was spotted landing next to the John Holt Community Centre, in Birch Avenue, not far from the scene.

A man in his 40s was left seriously injured and has been taken to Salford Royal Hospital.

A spokesperson for North West Ambulance Service said: "We were called to reports of a road traffic collision in Washacre, in Westhoughton, at about 2.20pm.

"We responded with three rapid response vehicles, an ambulance and the air ambulance.

"We took one patient, a male in his 40s, to Salford Royal Hospital by ambulance.

"His injuries look to be serious."

Greater Manchester Police has been approached for further information.
