Man rushed to hospital in 'serious condition' as police shut road

A man is in hospital in a 'serious condition' after suffering a medical episode in Wigan.

Police and paramedics rushed to Heath Street, Golborne, following a call at 9.30am this morning.

Officers closed the road off at the junction with Bank Street and Harvey Lane for around an hour after emergency crews arrived.

However, the call is thought to have been related to a medical incident and not a criminal offence.

The man, aged in his 60s, was immediately taken to hospital for treatment.

A spokesperson for the North West Ambulance Service said: "We attended an incident on Heath street after receiving a call at 9:30am, we’ve taken a man in 60s to hospital in a serious condition."

The road closure caused congestion through Golborne and meant that some bus routes were changed.

Stagecoach warned passengers that the number 10 bus could not reach its destination in the town centre because the closure had stopped traffic on Edge Green Lane.
