Man rushed to hospital in critical condition after 'fall' at Newport nightclub

A man was rushed to hospital from a nightclub in a critical condition in the early hours of Monday.

The man was said to have fallen in The Courtyard nightclub in Cambrian Road, Newport , before being rushed to the Royal Gwent Hospital.

The man is believed to be in his 30s, according to the ambulance service.

A spokesman for the South Wales Ambulance Service said: "We had a male who had a fall who was taken to the Royal Gwent Hospital. At 2.55am he was taken in in a critical condition."

Owner of The Courtyard, Iftekhar Harris, said: "Immediately we called the ambulance. At first we weren't sure what it was – it looked like he'd fallen down the stairs.

"He was given CPR by doormen then the police came and took over. We had every police officer in the city centre – they did everything.

"Police were brilliant. My doormen were on it straight away with CPR then the police took over then the ambulance service arrived.

"Police, paramedics, and our first aider were brilliant."

Mr Harris, 52, added the club was then slowly closed to customers early on the advice of the police.

He said: "We closed all the rooms slowly because we didn't want to have like 1,000 people out on the street at the same time.

"So we closed off the area, the roof garden, and we cleared the street."

We have contacted Gwent Police who said no-one was available to comment on the incident.
