Man rushed to hospital as Garda armed support unit called after alleged assault in Limerick

A man was rushed to hospital after an alleged assault in Limerick City on Friday night.

Multiple Garda cars as well as the armed support unit were called to Lord Edward Street at 11pm after the alleged incident.

One man, aged in his 40s, was brought to University Hospital Limerick with non-life threatening injuries.

Another man, 30s, was arrested at the scene in connection with the alleged assault.

A Garda spokesperson told the Irish Mirror: "Gardaí responded to reports of an alleged assault at a residence on Lord Edward Street, Co. Limerick last night, Friday 1st January 2021 at approximately 11pm.

"One male, aged in his 40s, was taken to University Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. A second male, aged in his 30s, was arrested at the scene and taken to Roxboro Road Garda Station and detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

"Investigations are ongoing."
