Man rushed to hospital and two arrested amid city centre assault

A man was taken to hospital and two arrests were made after police were called to an assault in Ancoats.

Forensic officers combed the scene of the incident on Cornell Street this morning (Friday).

The street was taped off with several police vehicles stationed at the scene.

GMP said they were called to the street just before 8am after reports of an assault.

A 55-year-old man was taken to hospital from the scene.

A 31-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault - he remains in custody for questioning.

A 55-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary.

In a statement, a GMP spokesperson said: "Police were called to Cornell Street in Manchester just before 8am this morning (Friday 12 November) following reports of an assault.

"Emergency services attended, and a 55-year-old man was taken to hospital.

"A 55-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary.

"A 31-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault, and remains in custody for questioning.

"Officers remain at the scene and enquiries are ongoing."
