A man was rushed to hospital with serious head injuries after being attacked in the street.
At 6.15am today (Saturday) police received reports a 21-year-old man had been assaulted on Gladstone Street, Widnes. The victim was taken to Aintree hospital with serious head injuries, but is now in a stable condition.
A 33-year-old man from Runcorn has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent. He remains in custody being questioned by detectives. Officers also arrested a 24-year-old woman from Widnes on suspicion of public order offences.

Police are now appealing for anyone who may have information about the incident to come forward. Detective Inspector Alison White said: “I know that this incident may cause some concern in the local community, however we are working hard to establish what has taken place here.
“There are a number of enquiries underway in relation to this incident and as part of these I am keen to hear from anyone who may have been in the area around the time of the incident to come forward.
“We also want to see any dashcam or CCTV footage that covers the Gladstone Street area as we believe this could assist with our investigation. Any information that you believe you may have, no matter how small it may be, please get in touch.”
