Man rushed to hospital after 'serious' road crash involving driver and pedestrian

A man in his 50s has been rushed to hospital after a road collision in Sligo left him with "serious" injuries.

Gardai are appealing for witnesses following the accident, which took place last night and involved a car and a pedestrian.

The incident – which happened on John Street, Sligo, at around 9.45pm – saw the man rushed to Sligo University Hospital for treatment.

He has since been taken to Beaumont Hospital, where his condition is described as serious.

Forensic Collision Investigators are currently carrying out investigations at the scene of the incident, with the road closed to allow the examination to take place.

Local diversions are in place, and Gardai are calling on witnesses who may have seen the collision – including anyone with camera footage – to come forward.

Dash-cam video from any motorists in the area between 9.30pm and 10pm is also being sought, as it may help the Gardai in their attempts to piece together the events of last night.

A Garda spokesperson said: "Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following a serious road traffic collision involving a car and a pedestrian that occurred on John Street, Sligo at approximately 9:45pm last night, Monday 7th December 2020.

"The pedestrian, a man in his 50s, was taken to Sligo University Hospital to be treated for his injuries, he has since been taken to Beaumont Hospital where his condition is described as serious.

"Forensic Collision Investigators are currently technically examining the scene and the road is closed to allow this examination to take place. Local diversions are in place.

"Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward. Gardaí are also appealing for any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) who were travelling in the area from 9:30pm – 10pm to make this footage available to Gardaí."
