Man rushed to hospital after serious crash on Glasgow M8

A man has been taken to hospital after a horror crash on one of Scotland’s busiest motorways.

Emergency services were called to the scene on the M8 near Junction 12 at around 6.35am on Friday following the single vehicle accident.

A 29-year-old was rushed to the Glasgow Royal Infirmary by ambulance but his condition is not currently known.

Police closed the road for around two hours to allow for accident investigation work to be carried out.

Rush-hour travellers faced lengthy delays as they were diverted off and back on to the eastbound carriageway using the slip roads at the Cumbernauld Road Interchange.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “We were called around 6.35am this morning to a report of a crash on the M8 near Junction 12, eastbound, involving a car.

“The driver, a 29-year-old man, has been taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary by the Scottish Ambulance Service."

Traffic Scotland announced that the road had reopened at around 8.30am but delays were still being experienced in the surrounding area.
