Man rushed to hospital after 'knife attack' in Greenock as police launch probe

A 'knife attack' that left one man seriously injured has sparked a police probe in Inverclyde.

The 42-year-old was assaulted in Banff Road in Greenock at around 9pm on Sunday.

The victim told the Greenock Telegraph he was knifed by a thug, wearing dark clothing, who approached him from behind.

Police confirmed the incident and that the man had 'sustained serious hand injuries' as a result.

He was rushed to the town's Inverclyde Royal Hospital for treatment.

Officers say enquiries are ongoing into the incident.

A spokesperson told the Record: “At around 9pm on Sunday, March 7 a 42-year-old man sustained a serious hand injury following an incident in Banff Road, Greenock.

“He was treated at Inverclyde Royal Infirmary for his injury.

“Police enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of the incident.”
