Man rushed to hospital after early morning attack outside Rutherglen roll shop

A man has been rushed to hospital after being attacked outside a roll shop.

Dozens of police officers were called to the scene outside Ruglen Rolls on Greenhill Road in Rutherglen around 7am on Monday.

A 45-year-old man was rushed to hospital following the incident.

The takeaway shop confirmed on social media they were temporarily shut due to the assault.

They wrote: "Unfortunately the shop won't be open today, there's an ongoing incident on the street and police have blocked whole street off & told us we won't be opening today."

The 45-year-old man was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University hospital.

Police are now investigating the incident which saw the street cordoned off.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "Around 7am on Monday, 3 August, officers were called to a report of a man injured on Greenhill Road, Rutherglen following an assault. 

"Police and Ambulance attended and the 45 year-old man has been taken to the Queen Elizabeth University hospital. 

"Police enquiries are ongoing in the area to establish more information on this incident."
