Man rushed to hospital after crash involving 'several vehicles' as cops lockdown Scots road

Police locked-down a Scots road after a horror crash involving 'several vehicles' this evening.

Emergency services scrambled to the scene after the incident outside the fire station on Rue End Street in Greenock.

A man was rushed to hospital and police closed the road in both directions after the alarm was raised at around 3.30pm today, February 16.

It is not known if anyone sustained any injuries as a result of the crash, however cops told the Record "several vehicles" were involved.

In a plea for the public to avoid the area, Inverclyde Police Division said: "Police in Inverclyde are dealing with a road traffic collision on east-bound carriageway on Rue End Street in Greenock across from Fire station and require to close the road.

"Traffic is being diverted. Please avoid the area if possible."

Emergency services remain on the scene but cops have now reopened the road.

In an update they said: "Road now open however traffic congested, thank you for your patience."

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 3.30pm, police received a report of a serious road crash on Rue End Street in Greenock involving several vehicles.

"Emergency services are on the scene and enquiries are ongoing. One man has been taken to hospital and the westbound carriageway has re-opened."
