Man rushed to hospital after ‘collapsing’ on busy Edinburgh street as police probe launched

A man has been rushed to hospital after reportedly being found collapsed on an Edinburgh city centre pavement.

Emergency services were called to the scene outside the Omni Centre in Edinburgh’s Leith Street at around 1.44pm on Tuesday.

Officers had received reports of the man having ‘taken unwell’ however a cordon was quickly put in place while cops carried out enquiries, Edinburgh Live reports.

Police Scotland have now confirmed that the man was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh by ambulance for treatment.

The man’s condition is not known at this time.

A force spokesperson said: "Police were called to the Leith Street area around 1.45pm on Tuesday, 30 March, after a man had taken unwell.

"He was taken by ambulance to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. Officers are carrying out enquiries in the area."
