Man rushed to hospital after being pulled from the river in Carmarthen

A man has been taken to hospital after being pulled from the River Towy in Carmarthen .

Emergency services descended on an area in the centre of the town on Wednesday night after reports that someone had entered the water.

Fire crews, police cars and an ambulance were all in attendance as a car park off The Quay - next to the river - was closed off.

Paramedics from The Welsh Ambulance Service were at the scene, along with several police officers and fire crews - including rescue boats from both Carmarthen and Swansea.

It’s believed that the man, of unknown age, entered the river near King Morgan Bridge which connects the town centre with the railway station. It is unclear how long he had been in the water but emergency crews arrived at the scene shortly after 8pm.

A Welsh Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “We were called at approximately 8.02pm on February 26 to reports of an incident in The Quay area of Carmarthen.

"We responded with one emergency ambulance and one patient was transported to Glangwili Hospital.”

The condition of the man is not known at this stage but police have confirmed that he was in need of “urgent medical attention”.
