Man rushed to hospital after being knocked down on busy road

A man is being treated in hospital for serious injuries after being knocked down during rush hour.

Emergency services were called to Stanley Road in Bootle, at the junction of Merton Road, shortly before 5pm to reports of a crash.

Witnesses said that a man, believed to be in his 60s, was hit by a blue Ford Focus Zetec and suffered multiple injuries.

As paramedics assessed the pedestrian and took him to hospital, police officers put a number of road closures in place to begin investigating the crash.
