A man was rushed to hospital this afternoon after being knocked down by a white van.

An air ambulance was deployed to the scene in Sheil Road, Kensington, which remains closed as emergency services deal with the incident.

The victim, a pedestrian in his 40s, was struck shortly before 12.46pm by a white Peugeot van by the Sheil Park Pub.

Merseyside Police said the driver stopped at the scene.
