Man rushed to hospital after being hit by bus on Edinburgh street

A man has been rushed to hospital after being hit by a bus in Edinburgh this afternoon.

Emergency services raced to George Street around 3pm after a pedestrian was hit by a bus.

The crash happened as police and bomb disposal units dealt with a separate incident nearby.

Emergency services cordoned off the scene near St Andrews Square.

A man has been taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for treatment but the extent of his injuries is not yet known.

The crash unfolded as emergency services dealt with a suspicious package being found at the Scottish National Gallery and closed streets nearby.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 3.15pm on Monday, 20 September, we received a report of a crash involving a bus and a pedestrian.

“Emergency services attended and the injured man was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh for treatment."
