Man rushed to hospital after being found unconscious at Clevedon Marine Lake

An 'unconscious man' has been rushed to hospital after being rescued from Clevedon Marine Lake.

Paramedics, an air ambulance team, firefighters and coastguards rushed to the scene at around 6:05pm today (Wednesday).

The man had already pulled from the water by a 'member of the public' before emergency crews arrived. He was treated by paramedics near to the lake and then taken to hospital by land ambulance.

Coastguard station manager Andy Hughes said: "We were called this evening to reports of an unconscious person in the water.

"When we got there the person had already been pulled out of the water by an unknown person.

"The ambulance service was already there. There was a significant number of ambulance personnel there.

"We assisted them, and prepared a landing site for the Air Ambulance. Once the person had been transferred to an ambulance, and the air ambulance departed, we returned to our Station again."

A spokesperson for Avon Fire and Rescue said one crew from Clevedon attended.

"We were called to assist ambulance crews," she said. "On arrival, he'd already been rescued by a member of the public and handed over to ambulance crews."

This was the coastguard's second call out of day.

Earlier in the afternoon the team rescued a group of 14 walkers and a dog who had become stuck in Clevedon's mud.

"People can come and enjoy the sea," said Mr Hughes. "But make sure you know what the tide is doing and don't put yourself in danger.

"In an emergency always call 999 and ask for the coastguard."

His team has seen a 'significant' rise in call outs since lockdown rules have been eased.
