Man rushed to hospital after being shot outside busy pub

A man was rushed to hospital after being shot outside a busy pub.

Emergency services were called to The Windmill in Tower Hill, Kirkby , at around 11pm to reports that a man had been shot .

The victim , believed to be in his 30s, was taken to Fazakerley Hospital for treatment to a gunshot wound to his leg.

His condition is currently unknown but a number of witnesses described the dramatic moment that the victim was taken into A&E.

One woman told the ECHO : "I heard the staff shouting someone who has been shot is in the car park and to do a trauma call.

"He was then taken through and loads of police with guns came in afterwards."

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: "We are currently investigating after a man was shot near the Windmill Pub, Kirkby, this evening (5th July).

"The incident was reported to us at 11pm when the victim, a man in his 30s, is believed to have been shot in the leg by an unknown offender.

"The man has been taken to hospital where his injuries are being assessed by hospital staff."

Chief Inspector Phil Thompson said: “The investigation is in its early stages and we are doing everything we can to establish the full circumstances of the incident and bring the offender/s to justice.
