Police are hunting two masked, knife-wielding thugs after a man was attacked in South Lanarkshire.

At around 9.15pm on Tuesday a 22-year-old man was seriously assaulted on Fairhill Avenue in Hamilton.

Two men, carrying knives , got out of a dark coloured vehicle on Buchan Street before the unprovoked attack.

The victim was raced to Hairmyres Hospital in East Kilbride with facial injuries.

Officers probing the incident say the suspects are described as white males, both around six feet tall and of a slim to medium build.

They were wearing black or dark grey track suits and scarves or masks covering their faces.

Police are now appealing for information from any witnesses as well as dash-cam footage.

Detective Constable Stephanie Bertramsaid: “This was a serious unprovoked attack that was a frightening experience for the victim.

“I am appealing to anyone who was on Fairhill Avenue or the surrounding area around this time who may have witnessed the attack, saw the two men getting out of the vehicle or saw any suspicious activity to contact the police as soon as possible.

“I would also ask anyone with dash-cam footage who was driving in the area at the time to check back."
