Man rushed to hospital after attack which saw Scots train station locked down

A young man has suffered "serious injuries" from an assault that locked down a train Station in Inverclyde on Saturday evening.

Police were alerted to reports of an attack in the Carwood Street area of Greenock, Inverclyde around 5.30pm on April 16.

Officers have confirmed that a 20-year-old man was the victim of a "serious assault"

Scottish Ambulance Service also attended the scene and the man was taken to Inverclyde Royal Hospital due to the extent of his injuries.

Cartsdyke train station was locked down, with trains unable to stop while emergency services dealt with the incident.

Disruption to services affected trains between Glasgow Central and Gourock and continued until around 10pm.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were called around 5.30pm on Saturday, 16 April, to a report of the serious assault of a 20-year-old man in the Carwood Street area of Greenock.

“The man was taken to Inverclyde Royal Hospital for treatment for serious injuries.

“Enquiries are ongoing and anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information should contact police via 101, quoting incident 2590 of 16 April."
