Man rushed to hospital after attack by hammer wielding men in Blackpool, Cork

A man has been hospitalised after a serious assault in Blackpool on Friday night.

The man was involved in a three person altercation where one of the men was believed to be carrying a hammer.

Gardai and an ambulance were called to the scene and one man was rushed to Cork University Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Two men were arrested at the scene and were detained overnight by Gardai, Cork Beo reports.

A garda spokesperson said: "Gardaí are investigating a serious assault that occurred in the Blackpool area of Cork on the 17 January 2020 at approximately 8.30pm. Three males were allegedly involved in an altercation and one male was believed to be armed with a hammer.

"One injured male was taken to Cork University Hospital with non life threatening injuries.

"Two men have been arrested and are currently detained under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984."

The road up to the church in Blackpool was blocked off for a time as emergency services got the incident under control.
