Others say they saw a man with a head injury sat on a chair being attended to by paramedics.

The nature of the incident is not yet known, but Greater Manchester Police have been approached for more information.

The M.E.N was told the area has previously faced problems relating to drug dealings and violence.

One witness said : "It looked like a serious crime scene. I was driving past and saw a few police vans and an ambulance there.

"I live nearby and I see police quite a lot around here.

"We are always hearing about drug dealings going on and see things around the back alleys. I report things when I do see stuff because it isn't nice to live around that.

"I have reported lots going on along Oldham Street in the past, there have been raids and shootings here before."

Another said: "There was a pillow on the floor and a tissue just covered in blood.

"I was told by officers on the scene it was a serious incident."
