LUCKNOW: A 54-year-old man was crushed to death by a UPSRTC bus in Alambagh on Saturday. The victim,
John Charan, was a resident of Barha railway colony.
Police said John was going on foot near the Mawaiyya Metro station when a speeding bus of Unnao depot, ferrying passengers from Kanpur to Gorakhpur, hit him from behind.
The commuters nabbed the driver, Raees of Asiwan in Unnao, and handed him over to the police.
John was rushed to KGMU Trauma Centre where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
“The bus driver was driving so recklessly in a crowded area that he did not notice the man when he even got under the wheels and ran over him. He did not stop even after the incident,” an eyewitness said.
SHO, Alambagh, Amarnath Vishwakarma said the bus driver had been taken into custody.
Jaiwant Charan, elder brother of the victim, told TOI that John owned an electric shop and was unmarried.
