Jan. 13--Authorities released surveillance photos Wednesday of a man who robbed a Near West Side bank the day before.
The robbery took place about 6:35 p.m. Tuesday at the TCF Bank branch in the Jewel-Osco store at 1220 S. Ashland Ave., according to the FBI's BanditTrackerChicago website.
The man walked into the store, went to the bank counter and asked an employee if the bank was still open, Special Agent Garrett Croon, a spokesman for the FBI in Chicago, said in an email.
The man made "numerous verbal demands for cash," which a bank employee handed over, and then left, going out a north door of the Jewel, Croon said. It was not immediately known which way he fled.
A Chicago police News Affairs officer said the office had not been notified of the robbery as of late Wednesday morning.
The robber is described a black man 25 to 40 years old, standing 5-foot-7 to 5-foot-8 and weighing 180 to 200 pounds. Surveillance photos show he was wearing a cap and had the hood of his coat up, but Croon said the man's hair was in dreadlocks
The man was wearing at least one black hooded coat, a black knit cap and light-colored bluejeans.
Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call the Chicago office of the FBI at 312-421-6700.
