Man robbed of cash, tobacco and bank card in 'terrifying' Arboretum incident

A robbery, in which cash, tobacco and a bank card were taken, has been described as a "terrifying ordeal for the victim" by police.

Detectives are now investigating the incident, which happened in Nottingham’s Arboretum on Saturday evening (May 16).

Officers have released a description of a man they would like to speak to in connection with the robbery.

Nottinghamshire Police were called at 7.20pm to a report that a man in his 40s was targeted close to the bird cages near to the café entrance to the park.

Detectives are keen to hear from anyone who believes they can identify the man believed to be responsible for the robbery, who is described as white, around 5ft 10ins tall and is of athletic build.

He is described as wearing a black sports jacket, black jogging bottoms, a dark face mask and a black beanie hat with a silver design on the top.

The victim – who escaped without injury – was robbed of his cash, tobacco and his bank card during the robbery.

Investigators from Nottinghamshire Police’s dedicated robbery team are now working to understand the circumstances surrounding the incident and are appealing for anyone who witnessed any suspicious activity in the park to come forward.

Detective Constable Rich Evans from Nottinghamshire Police said: “This will have been a terrifying ordeal for the victim and we are determined to identify those responsible for the robbery, which happened at a time when many people will have been using the park.

“Our investigation into this incident is now well underway and we are today appealing directly to anyone who witnessed anything suspicious in the park just before 7.20pm on Saturday evening to come forward as soon as possible.”

Anyone with any information is asked to call Nottinghamshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 628 of 16 May when they call.
