Man rips through roof of his own home in bid to escape cops

A bizarre stand-off with police in Wales reached new heights when the man they were pursuing kicked through the roof of his own house in an ill-fated bid to escape.

Footage filmed by an office worker in the seaside town of Penarth shows officers busting down the door of the Salop Place property while the suspect busts through the roof.

In a clear example of what not to do when you are being pursued by police, the man rips through the tiling before pulling himself up for a bird's-eye view.

Instead of trying to run or even hide, he resigns himself to the roof, makes a phone call and hurls tiles at officers in the residential street below.

"The man did go back inside the attic for a bit, and then he kept going in and out," an anonymous witness who filmed the incident told Wales Online.

"The police are waiting outside — they can't do anything, in case the man falls from the roof."

On social media, South Wales Police confirmed officers were called to the residential street in response to a "wanted male" and said the incident was resolved on Saturday (local time) after a lengthy standoff.

A 23-year-old man was arrested at the scene, a spokesperson said.
