Man rips off coverings on non-essential items at Welsh supermarket

A man has been filmed removing coverings on non-essential items in a Welsh supermarket.

The video was posted on the Facebook account of a man named Gwilym Owen.

The man in the video, who was not wearing a mask, is seen removing covers at the Tesco Extra store in Bangor. The coverings are believed to have been placed on items which the store is no longer allowed to sell.

This is part of the new fire-break lockdown rules announced by the Welsh Government which stops supermarkets from selling items such as clothes and electrical goods.

The man is heard to shout "since when has clothes been exempt?", "rip the f***ers off!" and "kids' f***ing clothes, it is a disgrace."

The man shouted and swore at staff when they challenged him.

He said: "Since when have clothes been non-essential?"

He and the person filming were then confronted by security staff before the video ended.

Writing on Facebook he said: "I don't care about the backlash that I may get from this" and wro "I'm not ashamed of what I've done."

A spokesperson for Tesco said: “Under new restrictions set out by the Welsh Government, we are currently unable to sell ‘non-essential’ items in our stores. Our colleagues have worked hard to put these measures in place and we ask that customers please respect these restrictions.”

North Wales Police have been contacted for comment.
