Man riding motorbike seriously hurt following crash near Wigan Infirmary

A motorcyclist has suffered serious injuries following a crash near Wigan Infirmary.

The A49 Wigan Lane was shut in both directions following the smash on Tuesday afternoon.

Emergency services were called to the scene at around 12.30pm.

The collision is understood to have involved a motorbike and another vehicle.

GMP confirmed the rider suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital.

Road closures remained in place between Swinley Road and Clifton Crescent at 2.30pm.

Drivers were advised to avoid the area.

A spokesman for the North West Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 12.22pm to A49 Wigan Lane near the Royal Edward Albert Infirmary to a collision involving a motorcyclist.
