A teenager has had his forehead stitched up in hospital after a man riding an e-scooter assaulted him at Honeysuckle.
Police were called to Honeysuckle Drive in Newcastle about 11.30pm on Tuesday, August 12.
Officers at the scene were told a 19-year-old man had been injured.
NSW Ambulance paramedics assessed the 19-year-old at the scene. He was taken to John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle for further treatment.
The other man fled the scene before emergency services arrived.
Newcastle police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the attack and have urged anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
The 19-year-old's partner told the Newcastle Herald she was walking with him near Honeysuckle Hotel when a man approached on an e-scooter.
She said he passed them before returning, and had his face covered.
"I thought we were getting robbed, it just happened so quickly," she said.
She said the man approached them and her partner scuffled with him before it felt like he had been hit with something. He started bleeding as the man rode off.
She said her partner had to get stitches on his head for the cut he suffered.
She said they were feeling better and trying not to let it stop them going out for their usual walk. She said she wanted to speak out about night safety in Newcastle.
"We know we were walking late, but it shouldn't be happening whatsoever," she said.
