Dave Maskell was born and raised in Whiston before he moved to California at the age of 28 for a job opportunity, where he has lived ever since after meeting and marrying his other half, Alex.

Now at the age of 72, Dave often looks back on his fond memories of Merseyside as he says the people here are 'friendly and helpful'.

Reminiscing, he told the ECHO : "I left Liverpool to move here in 1979 for a very good job opportunity. My plan was to stay a few years, make my millions, and then move back to the UK but then I met a wonderful women, got married and ended up staying here.

"My wife and I get back to Liverpool as often as we can. Our next trip will be in June of next year. I still have many friends and family in Merseyside so always look forward to seeing them."

The 72-year-old said there a pros and cons to both California and Liverpool, but one thing he misses most about our region is a very special dish - scouse.

Taking to social media, Dave said he misses the 'unique Liverpudlian dish' and asked for 'good and authentic scouse recipes' to remind him of home.

Being inundated with replies, Dave said he cannot wait to try them out and tuck in.

Speaking about Liverpool, he said the best thing about the city has to be its people.

He added: "I left Liverpool when I was 28 years old (in 1979) to move here, to what is known as the San Francisco Bay Area. I live about 40 miles south of San Francisco.

"The climate is one of the best in the world, not too hot, not too cold, but climate change is causing drought conditions here. But I love Liverpool and travel back there whenever I can to see family and friends.

"Liverpool has changed a lot in the downtown area with lots more walkways and less traffic, which is a big improvement.

"But for me, the thing I like most about Liverpool is the people. I have always found them friendly and helpful and they have a tremendous scouse sense of humour, which I love.

"This reminds me of the other thing I love about Liverpool - very talented musicians. The Beatles influenced me greatly and, before leaving Liverpool, the band I was in at the time played at the (original) Cavern club - my biggest claim to fame."
