A man who was rescued from a well has been reunited with his long-lost relatives after they heard of his plight.
Lamiad Muanmai, 55, fell in a 56ft-deep well and was trapped for more than 12 hours before he was saved when neighbours heard him crying in the Chonburi province in Thailand, on July 28.
Three days after authorities shared his heartwarming rescue story, a man who claimed that Lamiad was a relative he hadn't seen for 15 years contacted the government agency asking for his whereabouts.
Government officials visited Lamiad's house and set up a video call between the man and the relatives before confirming that they were indeed family in a touching reunion.
Lamiad's cousin, Suat Muanmai, said: "After reading the story and seeing his face on the page, we knew he was the man we've been looking for.
"Lamiad changed his phone number many times and he never called home. We have been looking for him. The accident was a blessing in disguise as we were able to find him at last and become a family again."
After seeing his relatives on the phone, Lamiad cried out of happiness and promised that he would visit the family in Surin province after the Covid-19 situation improved.
The relative said they were thankful to the government officials and the media for helping them find his uncle and would set up a meeting with him soon.
He added: "It has been more than 15 years. I would like to thank the government officials and the media for helping us reunite with our family members."
In January 2019 a one-year-old boy who also fell down a 60ft well was rescued alive.
The young boy, who had not been named, had gone to gather fruit with his mum and siblings when he fell into the bore well in Hisar, Haryana, India.
According to local media, he had been playing with other children when he suddenly slipped and vanished into the hole in the ground.
Officials reportedly dropped oxygen tubes, biscuits and juice down the well to help the tot before he was rescued 48 hours later.
