Huge emergency response launched to rescue man in Clevedon

A huge emergency services operation was launched in Clevedon yesterday (May 23).

Clevedon Coastguard Rescue Team, with the support of other agencies, were called just before 8pm to rescue a man trapped on the rocks.

The rescue team shared: "We quickly located the casualty in a challenging position beneath the houses on Marine Parade.

"With the support of Weston-super-Mare Coastguard Rescue Team, RNLI Portishead and Avon Fire and Rescue Service we determined that the safest way to recover him was to use the coastguard rescue helicopter from St Athan.

"Once recovered he was landed at the Salthouse Field and transferred to a waiting ambulance."

The team thanked home owners along Marine Parade as well as those in the Pier Hotel apartments and pier staff for their help.

Andy Hughes, Station Officer for Clevedon Coastguard Rescue Team, said: "It was a successful multi-agency response."

The Coastguard is monitoring the coastline from 11am to 7pm due to increased numbers of visitors as coronavirus lockdown measures ease.
