Man rescued from Kilmarnock quarry after being found in the water

A man was rescued from Craigiehill Quarry last night after being found in the water.

The emergency services were alerted to reports of a 40-year-old man in the water at the Kilmarnock beauty spot just after 8pm yesterday.

The man has since been taken to Crosshouse Hospital for assessment, police confirmed today.

The incident at the quarry comes almost two years on from the tragic death of Mark O’Brien.

The 28-year-old leapt off the rocks at the scenic spot on May 28, 2018 but disappeared under the water.

His body was recovered later that evening following a search by emergency crews.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "Around 8.05pm on Sunday, May 3, police received a report of a man in the water at Craigiehill Quarry.

"Emergency services responded and a 40-year-old man was recovered from the water.

"He has been taken to Crosshouse Hospital for assessment."
