Man rescued from house fire in South Bristol

A man has been rescued from a fire that broke out at a property in Southville last night (December 20).

Avon Fire & Rescue Service confirmed that crews from Temple and Nailsea fire stations were called to reports of a house fire on Stackpool Road at 9.20pm on Monday.

The fire had broken out in the ground floor flat of a three-storey terraced building on the road. It has been confirmed that the cause of the fire was cookery-related and is thought to be accidental.

Crews extinguished the fire using one high-pressure hose reel and one 45mm jet, and two firefighters wore breathing apparatus for safety. Firefighters used gas monitors and thermal imaging cameras to check the safety of the scene.

One male casualty was rescued by the fire service during the blaze and has since been taken to hospital by the ambulance service.

There were around three fire engines, two ambulances and an incident response unit van at the scene as the blaze was brought under control.

A resident who lives in one of the flats above the apartment in which the fire started it was "really scary" as they had to evacuate when the smoke started coming through their floor, and praised the efforts of the fire service.
