Man rescued from Glasgow canal in dead of night by emergency services

A man was been pulled from a Glasgow canal late last night.

The emergency services responded to a call in Knightswood at 11.20pm and the unidentified man was taken to hospital.

The Daily Record reports locals took to social media to describe the drama unfolding at the Forth and Clyde Canal, near Rotherwood Avenue.

One explained: "Two police vans, an ambulance and an incident response vehicle have just sped past us on Great Western Road, heading west."

Another concerned resident added: "Something is wrong, hope nobody is in the canal. "

The unidentified man was taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment but his condition currently remains unknown.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "We were made aware of concern for a man in the Forth and Clyde Canal near Rotherwood Avenue in Glasgow around 11.20pm on Monday, 1 August.

"The man was safely helped from the water and taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital."
