Man rescued from blazing home by firefighters in Blackhall Colliery

A man was rescued from a County Durham house blaze by firefighters.

Emergency services were called to Ninth Street in Blackhall Colliery in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Firefighters rescued a man from the blaze who was then treated at the scene by paramedics.

A County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said: “We received a call to a building fire in Blackhall at 12.39am on October 20.

“Three fire appliances attended, two from Peterlee and one from Wheatley Hill to a single occupancy dwelling.

“They evacuated one adult male from the building.

“Firefighters used breathing apparatus, hose reel and positive pressure ventilation unit to extinguish the fire which was located in the kitchen. Police were in attendance. The stop call came in at 1.18am.”

A North East Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “We sent two resources from our Hazardous Area Response Team, treated and discharged one patient at the scene.”
