Man rescued by fishing boat after being swept off rocks near Port Lincoln

A man has been saved after being swept off rocks at Whaler's Way near Port Lincoln.

He spent about an hour in the water at the southern end of the Eyre Peninsula from about 5:00pm.

Whaler's Way co-owner Glenn Theakstone said he was rescued by a passing fishing boat.

"A cray boat has just swooped in and have pulled him out of the water alive," Mr Theakstone said.

"Thank God for all our cray fishermen out here on the water."

Mr Theakstone was at the scene when the man's life was still in danger.

"He's been lost about 45 minutes but actually from me it looks like he's trying to swim — he's still alive," he said.

"Every now and again there's a big splash around him — he's sort of holding ground."

Six people have died after being swept out to sea at Whaler's Way, although this incident happened at a different site to where a man and his daughter died in April.

Mr Theakstone said visitors were warned of dangers and the places in question were high-watermark spots leased from the state government.

"At the moment we couldn't stop this one at all, apart from shutting Whaler's Way down, which we don't want to do," he said.

He said he was also waiting on recommendations from a coroner's report into the Easter drownings.
