Man rescued by fire crews after blaze breaks out inside café in Levenshulme

A man had to be rescued after a fire broke out inside a café in Levenshulme .

Fire crews were scrambled to Stockport Road around 9.30am on Sunday morning to reports of a grill fire.

Four fire engines and a police car were deployed to the scene - where a man had to be rescued.

Pictures show a number of scorched items outside the front of the cafe as firefighters tackled the blaze - believed to be coming from a large oven.

No injuries were reported.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue said: "Fire crews were called at 9.30am to reports of a fire in the basement of a café caused by a grill.

"Four fire engines attended and worked to put out a fire in a large oven.

"A man had to be rescued to safety by fire crews.

"Road closures were in place but we were able to extinguish the fire pretty quickly."
