Man repeatedly exposed himself on busy Perth city centre street

A man who repeatedly exposed himself in a busy Perth city centre street was jailed for 12 months when he appeared for sentence at the sheriff court.

John Reid (32), of Skinnergate House, Perth, also had his name added to the Sex Offenders’ Register.

The incident took place on a number of occasions at the Skinnergate Resettlement Unit - and in nearby High Street - on July 19 this year.

But part of the charge which alleged that he bared his buttocks in the High Street while “maintaining observation on females” who were under 16 was deleted.

Jailing Reid, Sheriff Gillian Wade told him: “You were given numerous opportunities to engage with the Community Justice Social Work Department, which might have given me the option to impose a non-custodial sentence.”

She also noted that social workers did not feel the accused would engage with the Tay Project, set up to rehabilitate sex offenders.

The sheriff backdated the sentence to July 22 when Reid had been remanded.
