Man removed from Erskine property following street protest

There was a large police presence at a protest where an alleged sex offender has been living in Erskine.

Members of the public gathered at a property in the Bargarran area around 7pm last night near where an alleged sex offender has been living.

Concerned parents and residents took to the streets to voice their concerns as the house where a man in his 40s has been living is within close proximity to two schools.

A source at the incident told Renfrewshire Live: “Five police vans and three police cars attended at the event which was a bit excessive.

“But parents have been concerned as this man is an alleged sex offender going through the court system and he has been living at this Bargarran property for around two weeks now.

“We understand this isn’t the man’s property but parents protested peacefully as they didn’t want to cause any trouble, they just wanted the man removed.”

Officers attended the property and removed a male just before 8pm.

A Police Scotland spokesperson confirmed : “Around 7.30pm on Tuesday, October 19, police were called to a report of a crowd gathered outside a property in Erskine.

“A man was removed from the property and the group dispersed after engagement with officers and there was no further police action required.”
