Man remains in hospital after horror car smash as police appeal launched

A man remains in hospital following a serious road crash in Ayrshire.

The collision between a car and the pedestrian occurred north of the St Fillan’s Bridge in Largs on the A78 around 10.55pm on January 29.

Emergency services rushed to the scene and a 38-year-old man was taken to Inverclyde Royal Hospital with serious injuries, where he remains.

A 26-year-old female driver was uninjured.

Police are now appealing for eye witnesses following investigations at the scene which led to road closures and diversions in the area.

Sergeant Ian Thornton, of Ayrshire Division’s Road Policing Unit, said: “I am appealing to any witnesses who may have seen the crash or were driving in the area around the time of the crash to come forward.

“I would also ask anyone with dash-cam footage that could assist our investigation to get in touch."

Anyone with information should call police on 101, quoting incident number 3796 of 29 January.
