Officers later arrested a 42-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder, but he has since been released on police bail with investigations continuing.

People living nearby spoke to the Manchester Evening News on Tuesday after the quiet residential street became a huge crime scene, with a cordon erected and officers remaining at the scene throughout the morning.

“We’ve never had anything like this,” said Michael Hickey, who has lived on Skye Road for 51 years. “It’s pretty quiet. On the other hand, we do know it goes on. It’s a passageway where a bit of drug dealing goes on."

“I heard the sirens,” added Paul Motteshead. “I went out later on and it was taped off.”

Police are now continuing to appeal for information and witnesses to the incident. Detective Inspector Leah Hazlehurst of Trafford CID said: “This was a senseless act of violence against a young man. We are currently following all lines of enquiry, and no matter how small you think the information may be, it could prove vital to the investigation."
