Man remains hospitalised days after serious crash with truck in Westmeath as gardai issue update

A man in his 70s remains hospitalised after a serious crash in Co. Westmeath on Thursday, December 15, 2022.

Gardaí continue to appeal for witnesses to come forward as they investigate the collision which occurred on N4 in Rathowen, Co. Westmeath.

At around 12:30 pm a car and a truck were involved in a collision, leaving the driver of the car with serious injuries.

He remains in hospital and it is understood that his condition has been deemed serious by medical professionals.

Gardaí are asking anyone who may have witnessed this incident to come forward. Particularly those who were on the N4 near Rathowen or the surrounding roads between 12.20 pm and 12.50 pm on the day.

Anyone who may have camera footage (including dash cam) is asked to make this available to Gardaí.

A spokesperson issued an update saying: “Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following a serious road traffic collision that occurred on the N4 in Rathowen, Co. Westmeath on Thursday afternoon, 15th December 2022.

“At approximately 12.30 pm, a car collided with an articulated truck on the N4 in Rathowen. The driver of the car, a male aged in his 70s, was taken to Midland Regional Hospital Mullingar for treatment of his injuries. The man remains in hospital at this time and his condition is described as serious.

“No other injuries were reported at the time of the incident.”
