Man released without charge following arrest over attack on Quinn executive Kevin Lunney

A man who was arrested over the abduction and attack on Quinn Industrial Holdings executive Kevin Lunney, has been released without charge.

The male, who is aged in his mid-50s, was arrested yesterday, March 12  and was detained at Cavan Garda Station but has since been released from custody.

A garda spokesperson said a file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Mr Lunney, 50, endured horrific “life-changing” injuries in the "vicious attack" after he was ambushed a short distance from his house in Kinawley, Co Fermanagh, on September 17, 2019.

He was repeatedly cut and slashed across the face and body with a Stanley knife, doused in bleach and beaten with a wooden post in a horrific attack which is said to have lasted two-and-a-half hours.

The father-of-six was later found bleeding on a remote roadside in Co Cavan.

The investigation into Mr Lunney’s ordeal took an unexpected twist when chief suspect Cyril “Dublin Jimmy” McGuinness, 54, dropped dead during a police raid at a house in Derbyshire in the UK.
