Man released under investigation after 38-year-old killed in Coxhoe car crash

A man was killed as two cars collided in County Durham on Friday night.

Durham Constabulary have issued an appeal for witnesses as they investigate a crash in which a 38-year-old man died.

It happened at 9pm yesterday (October 2) on the B6291 in Coxhoe, at the junction with Park Hill, and involved a dark blue Ford Transit van and a grey Honda Civic.

Paramedics were called, but the driver of the Honda was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 28-year-old driver of the Transit van was arrested at the scene in connection with the collision.

He was released under investigation after a police interview.

A woman in her twenties, who was a passenger in the Transit van, suffered "non-serious injuries", police say, and was taken to University Hospital of North Durham by paramedics.

A Nissan Qashqai, which was parked nearby, was also damaged in the collision.

Now, officers investigating the fatal crash have asked anyone who may have witnessed it, or who saw the vehicles before the incident, to come forward.

They would also like to speak to anyone who may have any dash cam footage of the collision, or the vehicles beforehand.

Anyone with any information should call Durham Constabulary on 101, quoting incident number 483 of October 2.
